state calls

Help us reach out across your state! We need volunteers to host state level conference calls, to help us get the word out about the teach-in. Let us know and we can send around an e-mail like the one below in your name—and rope in another 20 or 30 schools, faith organizations and civic groups to participate in the National Teach-In! If you are interested in hosting a call please contact Madeline Kovacs, our organizer extraordinaire!

Call in number is 1-218-486-8700, passcode 020509.

Sample Email

Below is the sample email that we will send out on your behalf. Thank you so much for helping The National Teach-In

Dear Colleagues,

Please join us for a half an hour conference call___________ at _______time regarding [state] participation in the National Teach-In on Global Warming Solutions. The Director of the National Teach-In, Professor Eban Goodstein will join us for the first 10 minutes, and then we can share ideas and brainstorm about how to maximize the effectiveness of the teach-in in [state].

A main message from Goodstein is that schools, faith groups and civic organizations can participate in a very high impact way with a very low level of organizing time by:

  1. screening the launch web cast, The First 100 Days. There will be versions for campuses and faith organizations.

  2. informing the staff at the National Teach-In that you would like them to invite your member of congress or US Senator to engage in a video-dialogue with a student audience on your campus.

On item #2, The National Teach-In will do the work to the issue the invitation, and then if your federal political leader says yes, the Teach-In will put their IT staff in touch with a designated representative at your school. At this point you will have a little organizing work to do, but it will obviously be worth it! This is an opportunity to create a critical dialogue between young people and federal elected officials-- and all it will take from your end is an e-mail saying to the National Teach-In to go ahead and make the invite on your behalf.

To learn more, please join us for the call. 1-218-486-8700, passcode 020509. Thanks-

Madeline
